20エマオ（Emmaus）

イエスは人間の罪を一身に負い、十字架刑によって処刑され、３日後の日曜日の朝に復活しました。復活のイエスが最初に現われたのは、マグダラのマリアでした。彼女はイエスによって７つの悪霊から解放され、深い信仰に入り、イエスに仕えるようになった女性です。

復活のイエスは、同じ日の夕方、エルサレムから７マイルほど離れたエマオという村に向かって歩いていた２人の弟子にも現われました。２人はイエスとは気づかず、同宿のイエスが食卓で感謝の祈りをささげ、パンを裂いて２人に渡したときに、はっとわかりましたがイエスの姿は見えなくなりました。

On the Road to Emmaus

When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.

Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them.

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.
